For visitors who do not live, work or study in the city, you just need to bring some ID showing your name and address and we will issue you a day ticket.
Facilities and Resources:
We have over 100,000 items available to consult within the library. There is a small selection of items available for visitors to browse, but the main collection is 'behind the scenes' and is available on request. There is no charge for looking at our material.
Much of our collection is now on the Online Catalogue
, and a selection of digitised items can be viewed on our online archive: Derby's History
We have 12 public access PCs for family history and local history research use. These can get busy so it is advisable to book in advance: Book a Library PC
We also have microform machines to view newspapers, Derbyshire census records and the national index of births, deaths and marriages on. There is no charge to use these machines and they do not require advance booking, but there is a charge of 50p per sheet to print out.
Photocopies can be made of printed material and printouts taken from PCs for a small fee per page, or we offer a Digital Day License allowing you to take unlimited photos with your digital camera / mobile, or use a USB stick to save digital copies from microfilm. Any copying must be within copyright regulations.
We can accommodate groups of up to 16 people for library tours, introductory sessions, or local/family history workshops. There is a modest fee to cover staff time and interested parties should contact the Librarian to arrange a visit.
The library hosts a range of talks, walks, tours and workshops throughout the year. Please check the CQ Events page or visit Eventbrite
There is on-street disabled parking on Full Street, less than a minute from the library. The building has ramped access and a lift to the library, which is located on the 1st floor. Public PC No.11 has optional accessibility aids including a high-visibility keyboard, rollerball mouse and screen magnification software.
